Doc’s Vlogs: I Cried on Valentine’s Day/ 19 Questions

I was told by a friend I should start vlogging because it gives my readers more information about the person I am rather than always writing about other people or things that don’t particularly pertain to me at all. When he told me this, I said I already did videos in my spare time, I just didn’t post them to the Internet. But then I got to thinking about it and thought, yeah, I should add videos to Doc’s Castle Media. It makes my blog a lot more personal. It’s a commentary blog anyway. People read to get my opinions on such things. What’s stopping me?! So here I am doing a vlog.

Obviously, this is not my first vlog. I’ve done others for my channel but I was never consistent. Still, I don’t know if I’ll stay consistent. But one of my goals for the year of 2014 is to be more disciplined. I’m going to discipline myself in doing videos and adding them to Doc’s Castle Media. That should definitely make my friend happy.

My first video is a tag video, which is a video that many YouTubers do where they answer questions, basically introducing themselves to the YouTube community. I decided to do one called 19 Questions. It was fun. I think I’ll keep it up. It took me forever to edit! But, I assume, with practice, that’ll get easier as time goes on. So enough of the writing. Here’s my 19 Questions vlog.

But They’re Selling clothes?

Can you believe all this hype around this video is really so you could catch a glimpse of their clothes?

To give you a little background, this video’s been circulating the Internet because it’s “said” to be a mini documentary of 10 people randomly being put together to kiss for the first time. No one knows each other in this little film. But they all kiss and eventually their awkwardness turns into something romantic like some mushy chick flick.

Yup, mentioned on Slate, the video was so beautiful because people in the video were all staged models! It’s fake.

Actually, it’s an advertisement for clothes, and most of these strangers are professional performers who are experienced in acting out love, sex, and intimacy for crowds. The cast includes models Natalia Bonifacci, Ingrid Schram, and Langley Fox (daughter of actress Mariel Hemingway and sister of model Dree); musicians Z Berg of The Like, Damian Kulash of OK Go, Justin Kennedy of Army Navy, singer Nicole Simone, and singer-actress Soko (who also performed the melancholy indie music that accompanies the short); and actors Karim Saleh, Matthew Carey, Jill Larson, Corby Griesenbeck, Elisabetta Tedla, Luke Cook, and Marianna Palka. Is it really unexpectedly touching that when gorgeous and charismatic Italian models, French actors, indie band leaders, and Hollywood royalty get together to kiss one another—under a soundtrack that prompts, “If you’re not ready for love, how can you be ready for life?”—the results are “beautiful”?

Gotcha!

Though it was fake, don’t you slightly wish it was real? I want to meet someone who’d really live that kind of spontaneous lifestyle. That person’s probably extremely fun to be around. The life of the party.

How do you feel about this video being totally staged? Do you like any of the clothes? Leave comments below.

March 10th Monumental Mondays with The Alumni Marketing Group

I’m want to start by saying I’m proud of the turn out this past Monday at The Depot for the hip-hop open mic event, Monumental Mondays, hosted by the Alumni Marketing Group. The event started at 6pm and lasted until the venue closed. I arrived at the peak of the show and was at awe because of the turnout.

If you guys don’t already know, I wrote a piece about the lack of support in Baltimore for artists. (Read here to catch up.) The turnout of this event proves the beginning of change for artists. It’s definitely something to be proud of though there are some concerns I want to discuss later in this post. At previous hip-hop shows I’ve attended in Baltimore, crowds were extremely dry. This was my first time being at Monumental Mondays and it was fun. I enjoyed that atmosphere mostly because it felt more like a party. People were dancing and singing along to performers’ music. I’d say it was a great experience for many artists and supporters. If you’re a diehard hip-hop fan who’s seeking new music to add to your collection, this is the event for you.

One of Doc’s Castle Media’s featured artist Kaseo, who’s latest mixtape is MoBetta Hip-hop, along with Park Heights natives, SMG, and numerous other rap artist performed at Monday’s show. I didn’t have too much of an opportunity to network with new artists, though I wish I had. So I’m announcing I’ll be at future Monumental Mondays as a heads up. Look out for me.

Here’s my little snippet of the show:

Though many performers had a fair opportunity to perform on at Monday’s event, others expressed frustration. Artists, whom claimed to be on the events’ list to perform but didn’t, talked of disappointment towards waiting for their time. Those who’ve performed later in the evening complained about the lack of support from peers, for once an artist performed their song; they’d leave the venue, leaving the building scarce of support of their music. To tend those concerns, Cortez, the promoter of Monumental Mondays, already proposed they’ll be addressed for future events. He wants everyone to feel they’re being heard, as they should for this is an open mic show. I look forward to the coming changes. I believe it’ll bring an even better turnout.

If you missed out on Monday’s show, you’ll have another opportunity to attend next week on Monday, March 24. Held at The Depot on 1728 N. Charles Street, come out to see another round of artists perform their best selections from their musical stash. Whether you’re an artist or an onlooker, you’ll have a good time here. If you’re an artist looking for some exposure in the Baltimore music scene, the Alumni Marketing Group accepts new artists for performances at their events. Just submit to their email, amnpage@gmail.com, for the next available opportunity.

YTube Vid of the Week: The Single Life- The Science Of Love

I’ve been thinking lately how I live in a generation full of people who’ll choose to stay single before taking the risks of being in a relationship. I don’t understand why that happens. I don’t understand why people put themselves into “situationships” instead of taking a chance with dating or moving on into the next step after dating. I have this belief that people are afraid of progression because their worried about what others think of them. That’s not cool.

I found this video that made me feel so liberated though I’m not seeking this type of liberation. I mean, I’m single because of some of the same reasons the cast in this video are single. But I can’t say I don’t take risks. I’ve been in enough relationships. I just need a break. Ha-ha!

SoulPancake is this cool channel that does mini experimentations explaining reasons for people to live a better live. I’m assuming to make your soul feel good. Maybe some people of this generations should check this video out and take a risk today. You’ll feel better.

Do you agree with this video? Would you say this could help your current situationship? Leave your comments below.

Artist Update: K. A. Walker’s “Trouble on Valentine’s Day”

Here’s some good news for the fans of our contributing writer K. A. Walker, author of the series Hide and I’ll Seek. She’s gone off to college at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), and is a contributing script writer for a series on the college’s cable network. She writes for Sketch O Phrenia, a comedy sketch show that focuses on the humor of everyday situations. The show is popular on the school campus and labeled on its Twitter as “the best comedy show since 2012.”

K. A. Walker sent in her first skit production that was premiered on the college series last week. “Trouble on Valentine’s Day” focuses on the possible worst nightmare of someone who’s considered deeply in love. That nightmare being forgetting about Valentine’s day. The skit follows a boy who forgets that it’s Valentine’s Day. He must figure how to please his girlfriend at the last-minute while not having money to give her what he believes is the best day of his girlfriends life.

We’re very proud of K. A. Walker’s first production at this University. We hope that she continues to strive and do her best while perfecting her skills in screen writing.

To keep up with IUP’s Sketch O Phrenia series, subscribe to the school’s SketchOPhrenia IUP channel on YouTube. To read more of K. A. Walker’s work, read her teen horror series Hide and I’ll Seek on Doc’s Castle Media.

YTube Vid of the Week: How To Pick A Side Chick

The ultimate problem in people’s relationships seem to be the presence of another person smacked right in the middle, or should I say side? For so many people to be grown, there are multiple people who cheat. Is that a grown person activity nowadays? I can look at my Twitter time line and pick at least 5 tweets in the last hour about someone speaking about how to treat a “wifey,” or the definition of what “thot” may be. But what takes the cake is the presence of side chick memes down my Twitter feed.

Side chick lifestyles are being glorified and this has been going on since 2011-2012. Does that come as a surprise to anyone? There’s no secret to these women, or men, tactics! I can literally learn how to become a side chick if I turned on the TV. Even on one of America’s favorite shows, there’s a side chick who is glorified for her adulteress lifestyle (Keri Washington on Scandal).

I don’t condone cheating. It’s bad but it happens in this society. That’s why I chose to use this video as YTube Vid of the Week. Chynadoll21388 explains the rules so well. If a person was to never get caught, they’d follow these rules without any hesitation. Watch the video below.
