TJDaDJ Reviews Creole Soul Restaurant Review at R. House with Doc

It’s a year later, and I’m a guest feature on someone else’s “blog,” again. This time around I blessed the screens of TJDaDJ’s Quick Bites Food Review.

I first featured TJDaDJ last year during what Black Restaurant Challenge month when I shared the top 3 Baltimore black owned restaurants he reviewed on his YouTube Channel. This year we together reviewed a black owned restaurant in Baltimore named Creole Soul Restaurant while he also interviewed me about Doc’s Castle Media.

Creole Soul Restaurant is located in an industrial food hall and community space in Baltimore called R. House. Owner and chef Shunquita “Chef Que” Neal brings her Atlanta roots and ventures in the Bayous of New Orleans straight to the city of Baltimore to create the perfect fusion between the deep south and rich creole authentic dishes.

I really enjoyed the meal with TJ. I ordered the Oyster Po Boy while he ordered the Shrimp and Grits special. The food was phenomenally tasty and reminded me of the New Orleans vibes I experienced not too long ago on my 30th birthday.

TJDaDJ not only took me on a trip on reviewing this black owned southern goldmine of a restaurant, but he also introduced me to his subscribers with an interview with Doc’s Castle Media. We talked #Thirsty30Body, my latest art collection Tipsy Decor, and a little history of the Doc’s Castle Media brand. I had a good time with TJDaDJ and hope that we can collaborate more in future because I also enjoy trying new cuisine.

YTubeVidAlert! The World’s Hottest Pepper Challenge Gone Wrong (Full Video)

Today’s YTube Alert is a viral video that most of you might have already viewed on Facebook. This is the full video of Elizabeth and Sabrina from the Lizzy Wurst YouTube Channel eating the world’s hottest pepper.

I don’t know where this phase of completing challenges to post for people to watch online came from. But as far as I can remember, it’s been the craze since 2014. Even I have taken the time to complete a challenge to bring awareness towards a deserving issue. Associate editor of Doc’s Castle Media and author of Hide and I’ll Seek Blog Series Kendyl Walker challenged me to the Ice Bucket Challenge in respects of those who are battling for a cure for ALS.

[Watch Full Ice Bucket Challenge, here.]

These challenges are very fun to do and it’s a great way to get a message across for important topics. But some challenges can go too far and could cause serious harm if people aren’t careful with what they’re doing. I’ll never forget when the fire challenge suddenly became the craze on the Internet.

This week I spotted a video going viral of two young girls completing a challenge to try the world’s hottest pepper. The world’s hottest pepper is the Carolina Reaper Pepper. It originated in Rock hill, South Carolina and was named the world’s hottest pepper August 7, 2013 by Guinness World Record.

In the video, Elizabeth and Sabrina each take a bite of the raw pepper and immediately catch the shock of a lifetime. It may be a shock that they surely regretted.

If you haven’t checked out this funny channel, you’re missing out. These girls spend their days completing many challenges. I think their challenge to take on the Carolina Reaper is their funniest video, yet.

What was the crazy challenge you watched on YouTube? Comment them below.

#YTubeVideoAlert! Delegation of Authority: What did #KorrynGaines Mean?

Everything that happens has a reason and a cause. That’s why I won’t knock the knowledge I’ve learned since the death of Korrynn Gaines, the 23-year black woman who was gunned down by police officers earlier this August in front of her 5-year-old son and the comfort of her own home.

Since Korrynn’s death, there’s are numerous questions about what truly happened during her 6-hour standoff with the Baltimore County Police Department. For several days, the general public was left in the dark about whether the police kicked her apartment door in while entering her apartment or if they obtained a key, and questions on whether she fired her shotgun at police first or if the police did.

[Read more about Police Omissions and Delays Related to Korryn Gaines Shooting via City Paper.]

Hearing so many questions regarding this shooting can make someone question if the people we put our trust in to protect and serve us are really honest in their dealings. It caused me to do a little more research about policy.

Previous to Korrynn’s most recent encounter with the Baltimore County Police Department, there was another incident with county police in March. The police interrogated the Korryn for 20 minutes for driving around with cardboard tags instead of Maryland state tags on her car. When asked to provide documentation for her vehicle, she repeatedly refused to present her driver’s license, tags, and registration. Some articles on the Internet state Korryn was pulled over while practicing sovereign law. Take a look at this footage as she refused to provide identification for police officers in March while she was pulled over for a traffic violation.

Delegation of Authority: What does it mean?

Like many of us that have a growing curiosity for something we desperately want an answer to, I went to YouTube for a quick definition. I came across a lot of videos that gave good definitions. But there was one particular journalist named Andrew Westmoreland who gave me the best explanation to what delegation of authority meant in the sense of its use in law enforcement. I also found websites that further explained how it is used to delegate orders to people of the law. Though I can’t say what Westmoreland is saying is the fact, he does make a few valid points that I cannot look past, like people not being aware of their laws and policies as it relates to current events with cases about police brutality.

With Korryn Gaines, lots of people may have jumped to conclusions too quickly about her character by saying she’s crazy or mental. There is obviously something more. According to what is observed in her encounter with the addition to learning more about delegation of authority, Korryn had a genuine concern about how she dealt with law enforcers. She was a smart and strong-willed woman. She truly stuck to what she believed was her due to rights. To her, there is a correct way of doing things. She literally died for what she believed.

Would you believe Korryn’s notion to ask the police for delegation of authority was justified after watching journalists explain what it means? Leave your comments below.

YTube Vid of the Week: Young Moose “No Sunshine” Feat. Martina Lynch

Baltimore’s turmoil due to riots and protests for Freddie Gray have blossomed a hefty amount of creative masterpieces from independent artist of all sort. The Internet is buzzing of colorful opinions, many pale and others vibrant, depicting artists’ perception of peace and violence; justice and injustice; and moral or immoral.

I even had the opportunity to vent: Read #OpinionEssay: The “Real Revolution Will Not Be Televised

This week’s YTube Vid of the Week Is from Baltimore Rapper Young Moose.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggU4t0ZFVbA]

Many of Baltimore’s youth look up to local independent rappers Young Moose and Lor Scoota, who recently reconciled musical differences in February over disputes of competition at a local rap summit.

Encouraging words from these rappers are expected since so many young people support these artist. We need them to inspire our kids to do better; to seek success and progression instead of lawlessness and turbulence, as the world watched Baltimore Youth as they rioted and looted as a result of police brutality towards Freddie Gray.

“Dumb Dumb” artist scratched the surface of reaching the you by releasing “No SunShine” in honor of Freddie Gray. Unfortunately, I do not believe he took this opportunity by storm. So much more could be done. So much more could be said.

“No SunShine” doesn’t get much praise from me because there’s more to be said than what these children who live in these neighborhoods already know. There are ways to get a message across without stating the obvious of what’s happening in our city’s black communities. We know of what our state’s governmental policies enable and forbid us from doing. We know about the “slums” that blacks have systematically become accustomed to. My concern was for artists like Young Moose to do a bit more, maybe lead more as an example.

I guess, I’m expecting too much in such a short amount of time. Huh?

Where are the programs they’re continuously supporting. As I look at each artists background and choice of brand for their music, I’m a little concerned about outsiders not understanding what’s needed to be said for our city. It could easily be misinterpreted if someone would listen to more of Young Mouse’s discography as his music is majority about drugs and trap life.

We need more “substance.” We need more positive messages young people will enjoy and support.

YTube Vid of The Week: Little Girl From Missy Elliott Videos Makes A Tribute

It was a shock to see Missy Elliott resurface during this year’s Super Bowl with Katy Perry. That was really something unexpected. I believe we should have more pop cultural surprises like it in the future. As I’ve kept up with the news about this neat act of wonder, we can all agree that there was someone missing from performance that we’d sure to see in any of Missy Elliott’s performances.

Where’s the little girl who dances in all her music videos?

Well, that little girl’s name is Alyson Stoner, and she was handling some business of her own, which is why she missed out on the performance. Stoner is pursuing her very own music career. Who knew?

I’ve always known Stoner for her many Disney appearances in films like Cheaper By The Dozen, and as Mike’s little sister Sally in Disney Channel Original Mini Series Mike Super Short Show. So it’s funny and kind of weird to see the hip-hop community discrediting and simply labeling her for her part in being that awesome dancing kid from Missy’s music videos.

Come on, guys! She’s so much more than that.

Here’s a list of Things I’ve known her to deserve credit for:

  • Cheaper By the Dozen (1 and 2)
  • Isabella from Phinese and Ferb
  • Sally from Mike’s Super Short Show
  • Wendy from Drake and Josh
  • Barbara Gordon from Young Justice
  • Connie from The Batman
  • Caitlyn from Camp Rock
  • Camille from Step Up (1, 3. and 4)
  • Kairi from Kingdom Hearts video game series
  • Background Dancer for Eminem, Outkast and Will Smith

She’s definitely more than just that dancing little girl. No wonder she missed the performance. Haha.

To make up for her absence, Stoner released a tribute video for the well-respected Missy Elliott via YouTube and that is why it’s Doc’s Castle Media’s YTube Vid of the Week.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEOo311_yts]

She also has a music video out of her own. Check out her official music video for “Dragon.”

YTube Vid of The Week: PRINCESS RAP BATTLE- SNOW WHITE VS. ELSA Whitney

Hip-hop is indeed a culture that captivates every soul at least once in a lifetime. But man, can it get to be so damn corny.

This week’s YTube Vid of the Week comes from a random stumble upon while scrolling my Facebook timeline, and not browsing YouTube as I normally do. I was reading an article about Disney princesses on Buzzfeed (don’t ask haha) when I suddenly see a headline that caught my eye regarding two generations of Disney goddesses battle rap for the win. What win? I don’t know. See the ridiculous video below.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcrQvoCzs80]

The Internet is interesting isn’t it? Can you believe there are more princess rap battles on YouTube? All I can say is the mind is amazing because I never know what motivates people to make some videos. Haha.

Who do you think won this battle? Obviously, it was Elsa, but leave your comments below.

YTube Vid of the Week: Why You Should Read The Alchemist by Bmore’s Hip-Hop Artist Gillateen

Now, as an advocate of my personal reading movement with my little bookshelf in the comfort of my home, I would recommend some good self-help books to a few of you. But I’ve been slacking on my reading, and have taken a stab at listening to other people’s suggestions about books that they feel are awesome reads.

This week’s YTube Vid of the Week is a dedication to all those people who seek purpose in their life. It’s for all the folks who inspire to achieve something but need that little pick me up of encouragement to do what has to be done for reaching where they want to be. Looking at Gillateen’s growing success tells me the book works magic, so I’m going to get me a copy of the book, too.

YTube Vid of the Week: If Black People Said The Stuff White People Say

Sometimes I wonder do people actually think before speaking. Someone can tell if you didn’t. This week’s YTube Vid of the Week is a comedy of Black people saying things that white people may say to Blacks that just seems plain retarded questions to ask. There may not be such a thing as a dumb question, but there is such a thing as questionable questions. In this video there is a plethora of those.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1zLzWtULig]

What can you do when someone asks you something like the questions in this video but ask another question back? Some of these things mentioned will make you turn your head in curiosity because you’ll wonder Do white people really ask questions like this. Uhh, yeah. I personally get rhetorical questions about my hair.

Why do you think we never say anything about these crazy, and my opinion sometimes ignorant, questions? Do you think it’s because we don’t want to be labeled as an “unruly black person?” Leave your comments below.

YTube Vid of the Week: Beauty and the Beat

I watch cartoons faithfully, as if I’m still 8 years old. I recently watched The Little Mermaid and song along with it like it just came out in theaters. I’m such a kid on the inside. But what’s up with these memes and videos that I come across on Facebook and Instagram that constantly tries to ruin my childhood memories by tainting them with adult messages.

Like this one:

images

Haha! They’re wild! I can’t help but laugh.

When I came across Beauty and the Beat, I died from laughter! It’s a parody of the song “Belle” from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, recreated to follow Belle’s day to day activities in a new perspective. IsBelle’s living in the hood!?

Boojie Belle has the attention of all the hood; hoodrats and thugs watch her go about her day. She’s the talk of the neighborhood.

It’s amazing how growing up can change your outlook on something so innocent. I can’t even imagine what the producer of this video was thinking. What’s really funny about this short is it plays off the stereotypes of blacks. So some of the things that happen in this video is funny because I picture a group of black people talking about a white girl coming into a majority black environment, similar to a previous YTube Vid of the Week: Mean Gurlz, which was also created by Todrick Hall.

I’m experiencing what happens to people when they get older and have kids themselves. Majority of adults no longer watch at cartoons that were created by people who were older than us as a child. (I’m talking about those 1980s and 90s babies aren’t looking at new cartoons.) So we’re watching what we’re familiar of. Now we’re finding that the adults creators of our childhood cartoons left subliminal messages to be unraveled. If there weren’t any subliminal messages previously in our kiddy shows, we create them anyway for laughs for my generation’s age of ignorance. Poof! There goes our memes.

While my generation does this, I can fathom what my children’s generation will be or how their kids will utilize new media. But my generations love making jokes of my childhood innocence.

What’s the most funniest meme you’ve come across in the past 2 years? Leave your comments below.

YTube Vid of the Week: The Single Life- The Science Of Love

I’ve been thinking lately how I live in a generation full of people who’ll choose to stay single before taking the risks of being in a relationship. I don’t understand why that happens. I don’t understand why people put themselves into “situationships” instead of taking a chance with dating or moving on into the next step after dating. I have this belief that people are afraid of progression because their worried about what others think of them. That’s not cool.

20140311-101302.jpg

I found this video that made me feel so liberated though I’m not seeking this type of liberation. I mean, I’m single because of some of the same reasons the cast in this video are single. But I can’t say I don’t take risks. I’ve been in enough relationships. I just need a break. Ha-ha!

SoulPancake is this cool channel that does mini experimentations explaining reasons for people to live a better live. I’m assuming to make your soul feel good. Maybe some people of this generations should check this video out and take a risk today. You’ll feel better.

Do you agree with this video? Would you say this could help your current situationship? Leave your comments below.
